The Government agreed this Monday with EH Bildu to maintain the approved measures to protect the social shield throughout 2026.
This was reported by EH Bildu on Monday in a press release, in which it indicated that it “succeeded” in extending the ban on … the evictions of vulnerable people without alternative housing, the prohibition of cuts in basic supplies and the maintenance of the social bonus for electricity.
These are all measures that were going to expire on December 31. EH Bildu’s deputy spokesperson in Congress, Oskar Matute, will explain the details of the agreement this morning at a press conference at 11 a.m. in Bilbao, according to the group.
From EH Bildu they stressed that “the maintenance of these important social measures is the result of discreet and constant work and the pressure of various social groups”, and they valued the agreement obtained, after “the intense negotiations” of recent weeks, because “it will allow us to continue to provide protection which is still very necessary in the difficult economic and social context that thousands of people are going through”.

“The social shield includes the three fundamental pillars, demanded by the social majorities and the different groups,” underlined EH Bildu spokesperson in Congress, Mertxe Aizpurua.
The Basque group stressed that these measures will provide “basic protection to thousands of homes and families”, both in Euskadi and Navarra and in the rest of the state, and will offer “security and tranquility to people and households who suffer from economic difficulties”.
According to EH Bildu spokesperson, “with this agreement we reaffirm and reiterate once again through actions our desire to improve the living conditions of Basque citizens, as well as state workers and their people. “We will continue to work in this direction.”
Thus, EH Bildu expressed its commitment to continue working throughout the legislature to “advance in improving labor rights, food and housing, fundamental pillars to be able to develop a dignified life.” As he pointed out, with “little noise and a lot of work”.
