The Hollywood Federation calls for a merger between Netflix and Warner Bros to bring more jobs

Los Angeles (USA), December 5 (EFE). – The main union of Hollywood actors, SAG-AFTRA, asked on Friday that the purchase of Warner Bros. by the entertainment giant Netflix will lead to more jobs and production that revitalizes the film industry.

“An agreement that benefits SAG-AFTRA members and all other entertainment industry workers should lead to more creativity and more production, not less. This must be accomplished in an environment that respects the talent involved,” the union said in a statement.

SAG-AFTRA noted that the agreement between the two parties “is a merger that could benefit the financial interests of shareholders in both companies, but it raises serious questions about its impact on the future of the entertainment industry, especially on the human creative talent on which their livelihoods and careers depend.”

The letter added that the deal, valued at US$82 billion by the online content platform, “reaffirms the true value of traditional media companies and the long-term economic prosperity they achieve, due in large part to the contribution of creative talent, which is the foundation of their success.”

Netflix will acquire Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), including film and television studios, as well as HBO and HBO Max, for $82.7 billion, the companies announced Friday in a joint statement.

The latest offer from the entertainment giant beat out other exciting offers from media giants such as Paramount, which along with Comcast were the three companies interested in acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery.

The purchase of WBD by Netflix represents the merger of two major audiovisual entertainment companies.

The catalog will include HBO productions such as The Big Bang Theory, The Sopranos or Game of Thrones, or films such as The Wizard of Oz and the DC universe, which will join Netflix series such as Wednesday, Money Heist, Bridgerton or Adolescent. Evie
