MADRID, December 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Venezuelan opponent María Corina Machado was received this Friday by the King of Norway, Harald V, at an official reception after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize on Wednesday, an event at which Queen Sonia and Crown Prince Haakon were also present.
The Norwegian Royal House said the reception took place at the Royal Palace in Oslo and noted that “Machado was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to secure the democratic rights of the people of Venezuela and for his fight for a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to a popular mandate.”
The audience with the Norwegian royal family was part of Machado’s public events after he arrived in Oslo from Venezuela to collect the prize, although he was unable to arrive in time and the prize was received by his daughter, Ana Corina Sosa, who also read his acceptance speech on his behalf.
The meeting took place after the opposition inaugurated the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize exhibition on its work in Venezuela on Thursday afternoon, an event attended by the chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, Jorgen Wathne Frydnes.
“The exhibition captures the essence of our struggle,” Machado said at the exhibition’s opening. “After losing our freedom, seeing our families separated and losing the right to live in our country, we value the goods of democracy even more. When we lose what we love, we find the courage to fight for it,” he said.
