The Cordoba army returns home for Christmas. The last rotation of the XVII contingent of the Latvian Eastern Flank (Latvian FE) returned this afternoon to Seville, ending its participation in the Latvian mission. The personnel, made up of the last troops remaining deployed at the “Adazi” base, landed at São Paulo airport, where they were received by family, colleagues and military authorities.
The group, under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Díaz, head of the “Malaga” Combat Tank Infantry Battalion, is made up of more than 600 soldiers, most of them belonging to Brigade X, the basic unit that generates the force. Members of the 2nd Infantry Regiment “La Reina”, the 10th Armored Regiment “Córdoba”, the X Sapper Battalion, the X Field Artillery Group and the X Staff Battalion also participated.
Additionally, more than thirty Army units provided specialized capabilities, including the 63rd Rocket Artillery Regiment, 31st Electronic Warfare Regiment, 11th Engineer Specialties Regiment, 21st Signal Regiment, 21st Logistics Support Group, and 1st Transportation Group.
Deployment
During its deployment, the Spanish contingent trained and trained in numerous multinational exercises alongside troops from allied countries that are part of the deployment to Latvia. In this way, it has contributed significantly to strengthening credible and effective deterrence, based on the fundamental principle of collective defense, the cornerstone of the Alliance which commits its members to defend each other and guarantee common values.
With the return of this last rotation, the “Guzmán the Good” Brigade culminates its participation in the FE XVII mission, closing a year of intense operational activity in which it reaffirmed Spain’s commitment to collective defense and shared security and in which the Army of Cordoba demonstrated a high degree of preparation and capacity.
