Parliamentarians linked to the left celebrate the resignation of Carla Zambelli (PL-SP) from her mandate as federal deputy. The leader of the PT in the House, Lindbergh Farias, called for the dismissal of deputy Alexandre Ramagem (PL-RJ).
“The resignation does not produce any legal effect: it does not erase the facts, the crimes or the effects of the conviction. Either the Council immediately complies with the Constitution and the decisions of the STF, or it will continue to commit an unconstitutional omission, likely to characterize, in theory, an offense of responsibility and embezzlement”, wrote Lindbergh Farias in his profile on X.
“The question remains: when will the court decision which determines the loss of Alexandre Ramagem’s mandate finally be executed?” » asked the PT member.
Other deputies stressed that the resignation does not cancel the ineligibility of Zambelli, imprisoned in Italy and convicted of invading the system of the National Council of Justice (CNJ). “Resigned! Carla Zambelli, arrested in Italy and awaiting extradition to Brazil, resigned from her mandate, trying to escape her ineligibility, but this will be of no use, because the Federal Constitution is explicit: ‘a deputy or senator who undergoes a criminal conviction in a definitive and final sentence will lose his mandate'”, declared Ivan Valente (Psol-SP), also on X.
Rogério Correia (PT-MG) also insisted on the ineligibility and welcomed the decision of the Federal Court (STF). “Zambelli is moving away from the Chamber, but he will not escape his ineligibility. The Chamber deflated in the face of the extreme right and did not indict the putschist MP, who was definitively condemned. Congratulations to the STF for its firmness in defending democracy,” declared the MP.
The Chamber of Deputies informed this Sunday, through a note, that Zambelli had communicated the resignation of his mandate to the general secretariat of the board of directors of the Chamber. In the same note, the Chamber confirmed that the Speaker of the Chamber, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), ordered the summoning of the substitute, Deputy Adilson Barros (PL-SP), to take office.
