I am not 1% or 0.1%, I am not in succession, and I am not 0.01% richer; Of the 50 million people living in Spain, 32 (exactly 0.000064%) have a fortune of more than one thousand million dollars, according to data from the 2025 report on millionaires published by the Swiss bank UBS last July. This selection list has seen notable changes this year. A quarter of its members have been tagged since the report was published last year, adding $11,600 million to the selected group’s total wealth, while three people lost the same amount and lost assets of less than $1,000 million. In total, the greatest fortunes among the great Spanish fortunes are five other fortunes, and their assets grew by 21.5% year-on-year to reach $213,000 million.
Now, since this era, one person has more than one person. He is, as stated in the report, Amancio Ortega, founder of Inditex, whose total net worth is $124,000 million, increasing by $21,000 million in one year. “Spain outperforms in this year’s report due to a notable increase in multi-million dollar wealth and a greater concentration of family assets,” says Pablo Carrasco, managing director of wealth management at UBS Spain, in the press release accompanying the report. Carrasco emphasizes that the growth of great fortunes in Spain is driven “largely by the strong development of some of the country’s major businessmen.” Likewise, it highlights that $162,000 million is expected to change hands due to inheritance in the next 15 years, which is why a “disciplined approach to succession processes” is essential.
More billionaires in the world
In the world, the number of billionaires increased by 8.8%, from 2,682 who received the report in 2024 to 2,919 who appeared this year, and whose data was completed in April. The list added 196 billionaires of their own, meaning they did not become rich because they received an inheritance. These new wealth added $386,500 million to global wealth, reaching $15.8 billion. This is the second highest annual increase recorded in the 11 editions of the report.
“In contrast to the boom caused by the post-pandemic revaluation of assets in 2021, this growth is characterized by strong business dynamics and intense company creation. From marketing software and genetics to licensed natural gas and infrastructure, these innovators are reshaping demand on a large scale, with billionaires from the US and the Asia-Pacific region coming to La Cabeza,” the press release said.
Among millionaires, joy also passes through neighborhoods, or in this case across sectors. The technology sector grew its wealth by 23.8% on an annual basis ($583,500 million) to reach $3 billion, driven mainly by an increase in the shares of companies related to the development of artificial intelligence, such as NVIDIA, Oracle, or Meta. Meanwhile, the wealth of those dedicated to consumption and minority trade alone rose 5.3%, dragged down by a loss of momentum in European luxury goods “against dominant Chinese brands,” supporting the report. However, this sector still focuses on the largest wealth, at $3.1 billion.
It was industrial millionaires who increased their wealth the fastest, by 27.1% to 1.7 billion. In this area there is a clear winner. Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, owns approximately 40.7% of the sector’s total wealth. Regarding financial services, the increase in assets reached 17%, reaching 2.3 billion thanks to market revenues and the return of cryptocurrencies. One of the strange facts is that 80% of the billionaires in this sector are what the report calls “self-made.”
There is also a difference between the genders. The average wealth of women rose by 8.4% to 5,200 million. This assumes that men’s wealth growth is more than double that of growth, or about 3.2%. The number of women with wealth is 374, compared to 2,545 men, although they outperform them “in accumulating wealth during four consecutive years,” according to the press release.
The report highlights the new generation of millionaires, as the transfer of wealth accelerates. The data contributed is that in 2025, 91 sponsors earned $297.8000 million, which is a record. About 36% reported this in the past, although the number of people who received the inheritance was smaller.
