Although it recognizes the progress in the relationship with the United States, the government of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva admits that 2026 begins with some “unresolved issues” in the dialogue with the American nation. Among them, according to interlocutors of the PT administration, is the lack of response from the United States to the Brazilian proposal relating to customs duties, in addition to the removal of the 40% surcharge imposed on other national products and sanctions against the Brazilian authorities.
