The man who killed professor and graduate student Katharina Kasten (Featured image), aged 31, while walking in Praia do Matadero, in Florianópolis, at the end of November, became accused.
The court received the complaint submitted by Public Prosecutor João Gonçalves de Souza Neto, from the 36th Metropolitan Public Prosecutor’s Office, who serves on the jury. Now the operation is being carried out in secret, as the case is related to a sexual crime.

The man was arrested on remand, and became a defendant in three crimes: femicide, rape, and concealment of a corpse, with qualifying and aggravating factors (suffocation, which was established as the cause of the student’s death, and the appeal that made Katarina’s defense difficult) prompting the MPSC to ask for the maximum sentence.
The confessed killer was also charged with rape, with violence, the aggravating factor of ambush, and concealment of a body.
