José Ignacio Landaluce has been a “popular” senator since 2016 and in this legislature he has been chairman of the foreign affairs committeein addition to being a member of five other parliamentary committees. He will join the mixed group, the time to decide whether he retains his status as senator or if he resigns. Only its owner can do this.
The mayor of Algeciras himself announced this week his temporary suspension of activism of the PP to defend their honor. Consequently, the departure of the popular group from the Senate is part of the normality of its current non-militant condition.
In a note, Landaluce clarified after learning of the socialist complaint against him that he was resigning from his organic functions, but that he was not resigning from his institutional functions such as mayor of Algeciras and senator. However, the PP forced the departure of the Popular Group after registering its resignation for temporarily not being a member of the party.
Regardless, the mayor of Algeciras continues to denounce that the actions of the PSOE “are due to pure political opportunism, seeking to take advantage of moments of particular internal vulnerability of his own party to reactivate unfounded accusations in an effort to exhaust municipal government.
