The Mexican stock market falls 0.53% and closes the week with a loss of 0.34%

MEXICO CITY, December 5 (EFE).- The Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) recorded a decline of 0.53% this Friday, a percentage that led its main index, the Index of Prices and Quotations (IPC), to 63,378.3 units, and ended the week with a decline of 0.34%, in contrast to the advance on the main global stock exchanges.

Gabriela Siler, director of economic and financial analysis at Banco Base, explained to EFE that the capital market ended the week with gains among major global stock indices, in light of expectations that the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates next week.

In Mexico, the expert noted that the Consumer Price Index “closed the week with a loss of 0.34%, having fallen in 3 of the past four weeks.”

Seller noted that station losses were most notable in the Mexican market: Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (-7.26%), América Móvil (-6.71%), Bolsa Mexicana de Valores (-6.32%), Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro (-5.69%) and Becle (-5.58%).

Meanwhile, Enrique Covarrubias, Director of Economic Analysis at Actinver Financial Group, noted that despite today’s movement, the Mexican index is recording a cumulative advance of 28%.

“The CPI fell by -0.5% to 63,378 units. During the week, the index showed a correction of -0.3%,” Covarrubias said.

On the day, the Mexican peso rose 0.33% against the dollar, trading at 18.18 units per dollar, compared to 18.24 the previous day, according to Bank of Mexico data.

The volume of trading in the market reached 142 million securities, worth 12,009 million pesos (about 660 million dollars).

Of the 687 companies that traded during the day, 318 companies ended their business with an increase in their prices, 341 companies suffered losses, and 28 companies closed without change.

The securities with the largest upward variance were from mining company Fresnillo (FRES), at 6.06%; The construction and infrastructure company Sitios Latinoamérica (LASITE) with 5.66%, and the hospital company Médica Sur (MÉDICA B) with 4.07%.
