Jose Felix Tezanos On Tuesday he showed a profile closer to a PSOE deputy than to a president of the CEI obliged to a certain neutrality due to the institutional position he occupies.
Because in addition to chairing the Center for Sociological Research, he is socialist activist. And this was felt for more than two and a half hours in the Senate, because of his political tone and his defensive attitude.
As if he was responding to the opposition of seat. But in reality he seemed to report on his management at the head of the public body he has chaired since 2018.

“When you get stung, your ideology comes out,” the PP told him at one point during the interrogation. And there were scenes in which it was more than obvious: the more tense the debate became, the more reactive Tezanos became.

Edition
Here a brief review.
When Senator PP Antonio Martínez Maillo Wanting to know why the CIS did not ask for amnesty, Tezanos responded with an attack: “Well, for the same reason that I did not ask why the president of a certain party goes on vacation with a drug trafficker on his yacht.”
Or, when the PP reminded him that in 2021 he had written that Isabelle Diaz Ayuso I had one “small intellectual entity”Tezanos said this “was not an insult, but a disqualification” which he “regrets” today.
But, in any case, it was a “state of opinion” signed as “professor of sociologynot as president of the CEI”.
And there he tried to separate his “personal opinions” from his work at the IEC. “Because I have the same political rights than you,” he said to the PP representative.
And he continued: “Do you know what a democratic society is? Do you know what a democratic society means? pluralism? Democracy? “So what’s the problem?”
“Go home”
The “problem,” Maíllo reminded him, is that he is the president of the CEI and expressing opinions against political leaders violates “the ethical code” of the organization.
To express “opinions as a member of the PSOE”, he told him, “come home”.
The Senate also showed on a screen statements by Tezanos in which he suggested there could be a “frame” surrounding Santos Cerdan.
He defended himself by saying that these remarks were, once again, a “personal opinion. “Do I leave an event while remaining president of SIC? Do I always wear a hat that says CIS president?
Because he, he says, has “a political life outside the CIS”. “I can’t have a political life? There is a serious problem with political views. What you are saying makes me uncomfortable.”
At another moment, as if he were a candidate in the middle of an electoral debate, he showed a poster that said: “It is one thing to have parliamentary immunity and another to have impunity to attack and slander.”
He also took exception to questions that he said had nothing to do with his work. “But what does this have to do with the CIS?” he responded when asked about his relationship with Leire DiezTHE plumber of the PSOE.
When Maíllo reminded him of passages from one of his books on Pedro Sanchezand Tezanos revolted: “Will they also judge my books? At the bonfire? Why don’t we take the book to the bonfire?
On several occasions, Tezanos described the interrogation as “inquisitorial.” “I am stunned: at 79 years old, to find myself with a historical period in which I go back in History, to the time of the Inquisition…”.
“This is unheard of, neither in the Inquisition nor in Torquemada, it has never occurred to him.”
For the PP, the “problem” of Tezanos boils down to the fact that “his political and ideological soul takes precedence over his pulpit”.
And it’s not just his tone: it’s also the “partisan use” he makes of the CEI. Because while all the private polls predict a comfortable victory for Feijóo, the barometer led by Tezanos pulls on the PSOE and places it ahead of the PP.
