The MP uses government machinery to work on his own farm

Federal Rep. Vicentinho Junior, president of the People’s Party of Tocantins, used a grader and truck purchased with public funds to do the work on his own farm, in Santa Teresa de Tocantins (TO).

Videos and photos obtained by the column show the grader – bearing the coat of arms of the federal government – preparing the land for Vicentino Jr.’s farm. These records were recorded in May of this year, on the eve of the Folia do Divino Espírito Santo, a party organized by the MP.

Another video, posted by the same parliamentarian on social networks, shows the truck bearing the Codevasf logo and the phrase “donated equipment”, also being used in preparations for the ceremony.

Folia do Divino Espírito Santo is a traditional festival held by Vicentinho Júnior’s family in Fazenda São Bento. The property is owned by the Tocantins Member of Parliament himself, according to the declaration of assets submitted to the Electoral Court during the 2022 elections.

In this year’s edition, the concert brought together singers Ivony Fernandez, Maquinho Top and Zizenio Dos Teclados.

According to Codevasf’s donation terms, vehicles cannot be used for purposes other than social and non-profit purposes. The state-owned company explained in a memorandum that failure to adhere to this rule may result in the donated assets being returned to the state-owned company’s assets.

“Any citizen can send additional information about possible misuse of donated equipment to the Codevasf Ombudsman. The company makes great efforts to ensure the appropriate use of goods intended for regional development initiatives,” the authority explained.

When contacted, Vicentino Jr. declined to comment on the report.

The MP used the parliamentary quota to buy a car worth R$100,000 as a gift for his sister

Vicentinho Júnior has already been involved in other controversies. In 2023, the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo showed that the federal MP used public money to buy a car worth R$100,000 and give the car as a gift to his sister.

The operation was funded from the parliamentary share – money allocated exclusively to cover expenses during the term of office, such as office rental, vehicles, tickets, food and fuel.

In the MP’s case, public money was initially used to rent the car. He then used a clause in the contract concluded with the rental company to purchase the same car, in a maneuver that violates the chamber’s internal regulations.

The car — a white 2018 Toyota Corolla — went from the rental company directly into the name of the congressman’s sister, physician Mariana Alice, according to Tocantins Detran records. The transfer took place on July 29, 2022, right on the eve of her birthday.

Who is Vicentinho Junior?

Vicentino Jr. is the son of former Senator Vicentino Alves. He was elected as a federal MP, for the first time, in 2014, by the Socialist Socialist Party, and renewed his term in the following elections, in 2018 and 2022, respectively, by the Republicans and the People’s Party, the current parliamentary party.

In 2024, Vicentinho Jr. chaired the House Committee on Agriculture, Livestock, Supply and Rural Development. This is the second largest committee in the House of Representatives.
