— It is an immense joy to pay this tribute to our dear Gilberto Gil during the Multishow Awards. To celebrate the breadth of his work, we will bring together big names in our music. We invited Ney Matogrosso and Caetano Veloso on stage for a special presentation, and we produced exclusive material with icons of our music, like Chico Buarque, Roberto Carlos, Herbert Vianna and Maria Bethânia — says Joana Thimoteo, director of music genre and events at Globo. — To cap off this historic evening, the tribute will conclude with Gil and his family on stage, symbolizing the power and longevity of his legacy.
For Joana, Gil, who just performed on a themed cruise, is “the personification of the mix that defines the Multishow Award,” whose categories range from forró/piseiro, funk and gospel to arrocha, samba/pagoda and brega.
— His work remains the essential link between Brazilian roots and innovation, celebrating the diversity of rhythms that unite us. It is not only part of our music, it is the story itself and the representation of our cultural identity.
Besides Gil, Caetano and Ney, other important meetings are planned for the night. Prominent name in trap, Filipe Ret joins tecnobrega queen Gaby Amarantos and pop star Marina Sena; João Gomes, Mestrinho and Jota.Pê present their successful forrozeiro project Dominguinho on stage; and Roberta Miranda and Ana Castela play female leads in different eras of country music. In addition, Maria Marçal and Thalles Roberto bring the gospel, and Yan, Sorriso Maroto and Arlindinho install the pagoda to crown the great celebration of Brazilian music.
From 8:45 p.m., Marina Sena and Gominho host a warm-up for the Multishow Award with Esquenta TVZ, on Multishow and Globoplay (on the premium plan). At 9:45 p.m., on Multishow and Globoplay (which will have an open signal for non-subscribers), the official broadcast of the event begins, with all the emotion of the arrival of the nominees and guests on the red carpet, welcomed by Milton Cunha, Dedé Teicher, Guilherme Guedes and Laura Vicente.
