History Specka club (Orense 26, in the lower part of Azca), temple of electronic music in Madrid and the only club of this kind that has remained open in the capital since its foundation, more than thirty years ago, will receive live electronic music from … Jose Puebla ‘A SUN’, based on the mysticism of Saint John of the Cross. It will be next Saturday, December 20 at 6:30 p.m.
After having walked the scenes of ‘A SUN’ of absolute solemnity and sacredness as the Cathedral of Burgos, the Church of San Antonio de los Alemanes or the National Sound Library of Mexico, Puebla brings this creation to the Specka club. Exceptional moment when the room and the artist found a radical connection, merging concepts that were a priori separate and inconceivable.
José Puebla, who presented this new project two years ago under the pseudonym NTRDNDNSSP which fuses electronic music with flamencoclarifies the reason for this creation with this certainty: “If each historical era has developed its artistic tools to, through beauty, unite with the transcendent, it is ‘A SUN’, one of those works which also seeks the transcendent, in this case with tools of its time and for its time, such as avant-garde electronics.
It is worth highlighting the unprecedented personality of José Puebla who, moved by his absolute passion for Saint John of the Cross, was formed, drinking his wisdom, as he claims, from the same source of mysticism in the Order of Discalced Carmelites of Avila.
After the performance, José Puebla will bring his audience back down to earth with an intense electronic club set, which will continue until 11 p.m.with whom he wants to celebrate his 50th birthday in a very special way. Kristie dj will accompany you in the club session with a set of vinyls.
A wide range of influences
If we focus on the musical, with references to Aphex Twin, The Stooges, Enrique Morente, Nine Inch Nails, DAF, Jon Hopkins, Lagartija Nick or Carmen Amaya, José Puebla had a blast two and a half years ago with “A SUN”, a 56-minute work in which, to an electronic avant-garde of raging force, was added the power of flamenco, in particular its powerful rhythm, thus creating a fascinating work. electronic experimentation. Without structure or known musical forms. Out of all trends, out of all time.
According to the words of Antonio Arias, leader of Lagartija Nick: “I’ve been waiting for something like this for years. At José Puebla, the entire flamenco imagination merges with the burning embers of electronic music. Genetics and epigenetics. “It’s fucking cool, it’s unique.”
José Puebla also participated in the prestigious Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg
A unique creation, that of José Puebla, which led him to set foot on relevant stages, such as the imposing Cathedral of Burgos (this is the first time that electronic music has accessed this sacred space), the Conde Duque Contemporary Culture Center or the Ombra Festival in Barcelona, a reference in industrial and experimental electronic sounds.
It also extends beyond our borders: its tour in May 2024 across Mexico in cultural institutions, such as the National Sound Library of Mexico or the Museum of Fine Arts of the State of Mexico and other places of reference; or his appearance at the prestigious Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, selected by The Spanish Wave platform and with the support of the Cervantes Institute and the SGAE Foundation. Likewise, Antonio Arias of Lagartija Nick chose it as one of the most interesting proposals to follow and that opens new avenues in flamenco, performing in the New Territories cycle of the SGAE Foundation last March at the Sala Berlanga in Madrid.
Trained by great teachers
Puebla trained in flamenco in the 2010s with guitarist Óscar Herrero, one of the great teachers of flamenco teaching. During this decade it was formed by another of the most important artists of national electronic music, the man from Malaga Digital 21.
The creation which now presents It was made during the years when José Puebla took care of his motherto whom he dedicates the work, the entire creation bearing his name: ASUN. “’A SUN’ is intended to be a journey of approaching the transcendent through art. “A mystery that José Puebla discovers through the music in his soul and expresses it to us through artistic tools of our time and for our time, such as avant-garde electronics.”
The famous flamenco fusion artist, Solea Morentedescribes José Puebla’s live show as follows: “I felt that José Puebla’s proposal represents the moment we are living, it expresses the tension that is breathed in the environment and at the same time offers alternative electronic solutions in which the rhythms and melismas of flamenco lucidly light the way. “He is not afraid and we currently need proposals that wake us up and warn us of what is coming.”
