
The Vatican’s new nuncio to Spain, Monsignor Piero Pioppo, will become King Felipe VI. will present his credentials this Thursday as part of the traditional ceremony in the Royal Palace, with which the new ambassadors will complete the final procedure to be able to officially represent their country in Spain.
Monsignor Pioppo will be the first to go to the Royal Palace, in accordance with the ceremony, which has remained virtually unchanged since the 18th century, to present the monarch with the letter accrediting him as a representative of the Holy See.
After him, the new ambassador of Norway, Lars Andersen, will complete the process; from Luxembourg, Elisabeth Cardoso Jordao; from Lithuania: Tomas Irnius; from Brazil, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo, and from Ireland, Brian Joseph Glynn.
This will be the last ceremony of its kind to take place at the Royal Palace this year. Traditionally, the ambassadors are received by the King, usually accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs on duty or, if he is not present, by another high-ranking official from his ministry, and after receiving their credentials, he holds a brief meeting with them.
The six new ambassadors, who will present their credentials to the monarch, will be able to take part in the traditional reception in January for the diplomatic corps accredited to Spain, which the King organizes every year.
