The International Science Photography Award through Southern Lenses: Focus on Science is open for submission until February 15, 2026.
The first edition offers US$20,000 (about R$106,000) for the best article and targets individual photographers or groups from developing countries. The Prize is a partnership between the Conrado Wessel Foundation (FCW) and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), associated with UNESCO (a United Nations agency).
The first edition, “Glaciers and Deserts,” invites photographers to record the impacts of climate change—from melting glaciers to expanding deserts—and highlight the resilience and adaptation of ecosystems and communities. The competition will select an essay containing ten original images.
In the case of collective authorship, the prize value will be delivered to a representative appointed by the participants.
Works created or processed using artificial intelligence tools will not be accepted.
Winners will be announced on March 9, 2026. Applications can be submitted through this link.
