The pilgrimage of Virgin of Remedies It will be held from next year 2026 in the month of September and not in June as has been done without interruption since 1981 in Aguilar de la Frontera.
This was agreed by majority of votes during the general assembly of the brothers of the brotherhood of Veracruz which was held Wednesday evening at the house of the brotherhood.
The older brother, Manuel Luquesays this is a request from many devotees and pilgrims who have seen how public attendance at the event has declined in recent years.
The causes can be of very varied types. Above all, the change in customs means that now, faced with the high temperatures of June, many people choose not to go to the sanctuary located at the Don Marcelo fountain, between Aguilar and Montalbán.
Fairs
It’s as complicated as the fairground set up your traditional stands, as June is a high season month for fairs in many towns in Andalusia.
For this reason, and as the celebration of the pilgrimage was not linked to any liturgical celebration, it was decided to propose to the brothers that the date be changed to the month of September.
It is a month where heatwaves are not so frequent and which is already outside the high season of fairs and holiday periods. Even if there is no definitive date yet, everything indicates that it will be third weekend of September so as not to interfere with other celebrations in Aguilar’s festive and fraternal calendar.
The pilgrimage began to be celebrated in the month of June year 1981 in honor of the Virgin of Remedies. In this way, the municipality has regained its pilgrimage tradition lost since the years fifty In the last century the last pilgrimage took place during which the Virgin of Antigua was venerated in the vicinity of the station.
Although the pilgrimage is organized by the Brotherhood of Veracruz, it has many brotherhoods of pilgrims who make pilgrimages to the hermitage, including one from the nearby town of Montilla.
