The pilot, who was on board the plane which crashed into the Copacabana sea early in the afternoon of Saturday 27, was found dead after more than two hours of searching by firefighters. The information was confirmed by Bernardo Rubião, deputy mayor of the South zone, in a publication on Instagram. The identity, however, has not been revealed.
Rubião also said he contacted the company responsible for the plane, which informed him that it was the professional’s first day of work. He was the sole occupant of the single-engine plane.
The fall occurred near Posto 3, on Rua Santa Clara, near one of the stages set up for the New Year’s shows. The fire battalion was called at 12:34 p.m.
It is possible to see, in videos circulating on social networks, that the beach was crowded at the time of the incident, and witnesses reported hearing a sound of thunder when the plane, which was carrying an advertising banner, collided with the water.
In a statement, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), through the Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (CENIPA), informed that professionals are investigating the causes of the accident, with the aim of completing the investigations as soon as possible.
