The Plasencia Conference Center (Cáceres) will be named after Robe Iniesta

The Palace of Congresses of Plasencia (Cáceres), hometown of Robert Iniestawill bear the name of the singer, musician and poet, leader of the rock group Extremoduro and who died this Wednesday at the age of 63, in recognition of his life and professional career.

In recent years, the Palace of The Plasencia Congress has become a “place of refuge and rehearsal” for the singer and his band, as well as on the music video recording stage.

“With the name Roberto Iniesta Congress Palace, Extremadura pays homage to one of the most representative personalities of the region, consolidating his legacy in his hometown, the capital of the Jerte Valley, and responding to the demand to promote this building as a cultural center for musicians, artists and new creators,” the Commission highlighted in a press release.

The Regional Executive deeply regretted the death of the Placentino singer, guitarist and composer Roberto Iniesta Ojea, who was a “key figure” of Spanish rock and a cultural reference for several generations.

“The dress leaves an indelible mark on the heart of all the men and women of Extremadura,” he said.

Recognized by the Extremadura Medal and named Favorite Son of Plasencia, Robe became an ambassador of Extremadura and a symbol of Extremadura culture, highlights the regional government.

“On behalf of the Government of the Junta of Extremadura, we wish to express our deepest condolences to his family, friends and the people of Extremadura, who today mourn his loss in collective mourning,” he said.

Three days of mourning

The Plasencia City Hall has declared three days of official mourning for the death of Robe Iniesta, during which it will keep the flags at half-mast.

“Today, December 10, 2025, we must write the saddest press release of our lives. Today we say goodbye to the last great philosopher, to the last great humanist and contemporary writer in the Spanish language, and to the singer whose melodies managed to shake generations and generations,” wrote his communications agency in a note published on the website.

The local government will also make a “book of condolences” available to residents in the corridor of the plenary room.
