Alava will have budgets for 2026. Podemos and IU, which make up the Elkarrekin coalition in Alava, announced this Sunday that after a weekend of “intense negotiations”, they reached an agreement that will allow the PNV and the PSE-EE, which do not govern by absolute majority, to execute the budgets.
“We can announce that we have reached a budget agreement with which we meet two objectives that were fundamental to us: making viable the first labor agreement for workers in private residences in Araba and moving towards a better Araba through a set of ambitious pacts that seek a more social, more united and sustainable territory, with a more committed, progressive and courageous vision in today’s real world,” said the spokesperson, David Rodríguez.
Podemos and IU are pleased to have resolved the conflict over residences and to have reached “essential” points in terms of care, housing, social and territorial cohesion, the fight against homelessness and gender-based violence, as well as the defense of the environment and biodiversity.
The Alava Provincial Delegation – in the hands of Ramiro González, of the PNV, in coalition with the PSE-EE – kept a “match point” throughout the week, since Elkarrekin had demanded a solution to the labor conflict in the residences before sitting down to reach an agreement on the budgets. González announced Thursday evening that an agreement had been reached between bosses and unions until 2028, accompanied by an injection of just over 10 million euros in regional funds to cope with salary increases of more than 30% which will leave the ordinary payroll of a gerocultur at 1,500 euros per month. This caused Elkarrekin to withdraw his entire budget amendment, ensuring the provincial government did not lose the vote. From now on, Álava will be able to have updated budgets on January 1st.
