Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) said that the only scenario in which he would leave the Palácio do Planalto pre-candidacy in the 2026 elections would be the release of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and the possibility of him running in the elections himself.
For Record, the senator said he had no intention of withdrawing his name from the conflict and that the “price” for giving up the presidential race was “justice” for his father, sentenced to 27 years and 3 years for coup plotting.
“My price is justice. And it’s not just justice for me, it’s justice for almost 60 million Brazilians who have been kidnapped – they are currently in captivity with President Jair Messias Bolsonaro. So obviously there is no going back. My pre-candidacy for president is very conscious. It’s about representing a large part of the Brazilian population who no longer accept this enormous amount of abuse,” said Flavio.

The senator went on to say that the launch of his name, with the approval and request of Bolsonaro himself, symbolizes hope. He emphasizes that he is “showing his face” and that he will only stop “on the day of victory”, hoping that the injustices against his family and against Brazilians outside the country will stop.
“I will not withdraw my name, unless we get justice – as I said here – not only with Bolsonaro, but with hundreds, thousands, millions of Brazilians who are suffering, anguished, desperate, with this feeling of: ‘Who can we turn to?’ What should we do now? “So the launch of my name comes to save this shine, to once again warm the hearts of Brazilians,” he stressed.
Earlier, in Brasilia, the senator declared that he was ready to negotiate the “price” of withdrawing from the conflict, but without specifying what it would be. Bolsonaro’s support for Flávio’s candidacy was announced first-hand by Metropolisesin the column of journalist Paulo Cappelli.

Bolsonaro began serving his sentence for coup plotting at the Federal Police Superintendency, where he has been in preventive detention since November 22 for failure to comply with a precautionary measure in another case. Bolsonaro attempted to rape the anklet he was wearing.
Minister of the Federal Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes ordered the final judgment of the cases of Bolsonaro and other accused of core 1 of the coup plot. This allowed the former president to serve his sentence permanently. He was considered the leader of the criminal organization that aimed to keep him in power after the 2022 elections, and sentenced to serve his sentence in a closed regime.
Additionally, Bolsonaro is ineligible for election until 2060. This means that the former president will only be able to run for another term starting in 2062, when he will be 107 years old.
