A Military Police sergeant was arrested in the early hours of this Saturday (6), in the community of Palmeira, in Fonseca, in Niterói, after being located thanks to the surveillance system of the town hall. The car he was in was filmed by the cameras of the Integrated Public Security Center (Cisp) shortly after gunshots were reported in the neighborhood, during an intense shootout that panicked residents between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. The officer was found with a rifle and a pistol with scratched numbers inside the vehicle which bore several marks of gunshots.

According to the incident report to which GLOBO had access, police officers from the 12th BPM (Niterói) were working in the upper part of the community, during the invasion, when the sergeant’s car, already hit by several gunshots to the hood and sides, took the road and was approached. The garrison disembarked from an armored vehicle and ordered the driver to stop, which was obeyed. During the search, officers discovered a 9mm caliber pistol with an extended magazine lying under the driver’s seat, as well as a second pistol magazine inside the vehicle.
In the back seat, there was a 7.62 rifle with hidden numbers and two magazines loaded with ammunition of the same caliber. Inside the storage compartment, police found R$2,800 in cash and two cell phones. The driver only identified himself as a military police officer during the incident, saying he was Edinei Silva de Andrade, sergeant of the 15th BPM (Duque de Caxias). He did not present a functional document at the time of the process. All the material was seized and the case was registered in the 78th DP.
The arrest took place in the middle of the night, when armed criminals from the Third Pure Command attempted to invade communities dominated by the Red Command, according to the 12th BPM and Niterói City Hall. The municipality said the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system, drones and surveillance portals confirmed that at least six criminals from Acari and Irajá participated in the action. Four suspects were arrested and three rifles seized.
City Hall reported that Cisp identified new gunshots early Saturday morning and pointed to the car where Sergeant Edinei was, who had gunshot wounds. The Prime Minister did not confirm whether the police officer was involved in the clashes or whether there is a direct link with the movement of criminals who crossed the bridge.
The case remains under investigation by the 78th PD.
