Psychologists explain why frequent cell phone use can cause people to act without being fully aware of what they are doing.
Psychology experts have begun to warn of a situation – and harm – caused, in recent times, by the use of cell phones among many people. The phenomenon can occur in Brazil, the United States and elsewhere, and many individuals can experience it without even realizing it, because it happens “automatically.”
People are “hallucinating” because of their cell phones
According to William Van Gordonprofessor of contemplative psychology at the University of Derby, mobile phone use causes people to experience a phenomenon known as “reverse hallucinations.” Damn it!
In an interview with “Today”, highlighted by the Colombian portal “El Tiempo”, Van Gordon defined this suffering as not seeing or forgetting the daily things that surround the person. Examples cited include not remembering anything about the journey from home to work or serving a plate of food at the table and then realizing the food is gone!
The expert explains that this happens because people start to act automatically in their daily actions, focusing on their cell phones. He therefore considers that this behavior becomes a serious mental health problem. Social networks have a very significant impact on this phenomenon.
