
The Minister for Foreign trade and tourismTeresa Mera, attended the inauguration of the new tracks and paths of the Barranco Tourist Trail, a measure to improve the walkability and urban environment of the district. The activity was developed as part of a work carried out in coordination with the district administration.
The project was financed through the transfer of funds from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism to the municipality of Barranco and requested an investment of S/1,768 million. During the ceremony it was highlighted that the affected roads had not been renovated for more than 20 years.
The work included the reconstruction of tracks and sidewalks in Bragante, Felipe Pardo, Ignacio Merino and Jirón Colón streets, which are part of the district’s tourist route. As previously mentioned, the intervention aimed to improve vehicular and pedestrian traffic in high-traffic areas.
During the opening ceremony, the minister said: “From Mincetur we support this work with an investment of more than.” S/ 1.7 million. After more than 20 years, this made it possible to comprehensively renovate all of these access roads. Today, Bragante, Felipe Pardo, Ignacio Merino and Jirón Colón streets regain their urban and cultural value, connecting in a safe and orderly manner the main tourist attractions of the district.”

The project This included the installation of new street furniture and vertical and horizontal signage on the affected streets. These measures were aimed at ordering traffic and making it easier for pedestrians and drivers to find their way.

As part of the Tourism Security Project, the Mincetur transferred an additional budget for the purchase and installation of smart surveillance cameras. Features include facial recognition technology, license plate recognition and 360-degree PTZ cameras connected via fiber optics.
Regarding this component, the Minister explained: “This comprehensive work directly benefits more than 15,000 residents and thousands of national and foreign visitors who walk along these paths and these beautiful streets. And we are not just thinking about the restoration and repair of the roads, but we are responding to one of the cries of our population, which is a priority objective of the Government of President José Jeri: the Attention to security issues. “We want them to live more peacefully, we want them to be better protected.”

During the ceremony, the area manager also referred to the behavior of the International tourism in the country. “From January to October, more than 3.8 million tourists were registered. This figure represents an annual growth of 4.5% and a recovery of 78.6% compared to the levels achieved in the same period of 2019,” he explained.
Likewise, he pointed out that it is expected to reach 4.2 million international visitors by the end of 2025, generating an estimated income of $11.8 billion economics.
