The roof of a gymnasium in São Caetano do Sul, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, collapsed onto the swimming pool, after a strong storm, early in the afternoon of this Monday (11/8). Two people were slightly injured.

In a note posted on social media, Academia Inova São Caetano said five students and two employees were in the pool area at the time of the incident, but none of them were seriously injured.

“We offer all necessary support to each of them and, due to what has happened, all academy activities are temporarily suspended. We deeply appreciate all the messages of support we have received,” the statement said.
Severe warning for severe storms
The Civil Defense of the State of São Paulo has issued a severe warning regarding the formation of strong storms and extreme wind gusts, due to the formation of an extratropical cyclone in the south of the country. The warning applies to all regions of the state of São Paulo, due to the passage of an extratropical cyclone along the coast of the Southeast region.

According to the agency, the phenomenon is expected to intensify areas of instability, causing heavy rains, intense winds, lightning and even hail in some areas. There is a risk of falling trees, roofs and power outages.
Previously, the Climate Emergency Management Center (CGE) of São Paulo City Hall had placed the city on flood alert. According to the CGE, the alert concerns heavy rain, with a risk of hail and flooding.

- Pick up loose items from balconies and backyards.
