The new phase of Kate Middleton and the Prince William in Windsor, England, it’s far from a simple change of address. Presented as the couple’s “permanent residence”, the mansion chosen by the Princes of Wales shed light on a delicate subject, little visible to the public, but central to the British monarchy: extreme security and the direct impact it has on the lives of those who live nearby.
Experts say there’s a reason considered “sinister” for the new property to have “safe rooms,” hardened environments for emergency situations. These same measures, however, generate “sacrifices and inconveniences” for neighbors, such as travel restrictions and changes to routine in areas previously open to the public!
A new home, a new level of security
Kate and William moved from Adelaide Cottage to Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park. The residence is significantly larger, providing more space for the couple and their three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – and has been described as the family’s forever home.
However, with this change, residents in the area have begun to report the inconvenience caused by the increased security: previously free areas are now fenced off, trails have been closed and even routine walks have had to be modified.
