The decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes authorizes the treatment of bilateral inguinal hernia; the request to accompany the children was rejected
The Minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, authorized this Tuesday (23) the hospitalization of Jair Bolsonaro with the aim of carrying out surgery. The operation is scheduled for Thursday (25) and aims to treat a bilateral inguinal hernia, in addition to hiccups. The schedule provides for hospitalization for Wednesday (24), aimed at preoperative preparation.
The need for intervention was confirmed by a medical examination carried out by the National Forensic Institute of the Federal Police (PF). Experts diagnosed the existence of hernias on both sides of the groin. According to the technical report, the surgical procedure is classified as elective, meaning it is not an immediate emergency or emergency.
However, the document recommends carrying out the procedure quickly to avoid negative developments in the state of health. The expert identified a progression of the problem, associated with increased pressure in the abdomen resulting from chronic cough and episodes of hiccups.
In the decision, Minister Alexandre de Moraes established that only the wife of the former president, Michelle Bolsonarohas authorization to act as an accompanist during the period of hospitalization. The judge rejected the defense’s request that the children, Flavio and Carlos Bolsonarowere allowed to visit him as secondary companions.
On the 19th, Moraes had already authorized the operation, but had rejected a request for house arrest. The minister justified this refusal by citing the absence of legal requirements, in addition to mentioning the non-compliance with precautionary measures and the existence of actions aimed at fraud.
Jair Bolsonaro has been detained at the Federal Police Superintendency since November 22. The arrest occurred after the electronic ankle monitor was tampered with. Subsequently, it was decided to start serving the prison sentence, exceeding 27 years, in the same police unit.
