Police sources confirmed that the suspected 18-year-old attacker was caught walking through Mariano Moreno Square in the Don Bosco district in the early hours of this Sunday. He was armed and tried to escapeas confirmed by the newspaper La Capital.
In the last hours he was brought before the prosecutor María Florencia Salas, but he refused to testify and was returned to Batán prison, where he has been housed since his arrest.
Ramiro P. was wanted by the police after they managed to identify him following the violent confrontation with police during a raid by the Illicit Drugs Unit of the Buenos Aires Police Department in Mar del Plata.
Since Friday, the young man has been identified as the main suspect in the shooting attack on Ruiz, who was shot in the head and has since been admitted to intensive care at HIGA.
Ramiro P lived at 2500 Armenia Street. But despite the police raid, they were unable to locate him there.
On site they arrested his sister (22) for drug possession – they found cocaine ready for sale – and confiscated some pistols that were in the apartment: among other thingsna Bersa Thunder caliber 9 millimeters which, as it turned out, had been stolen from a policewoman in 2022, and they also recovered a Taurus 9-millimeter pistol.
Ian Ruiz, the young 20-year-old agent, comes from Mar del Plata. He grew up with his three brothers in the Libertad neighborhood and reported to the police after attending School No. 13. Shortly after completing his training in Bahía Blanca, he entered the field of illegal drugs.
Thursday’s violent raid ended with a police officer being seriously injured by a bullet to the head
A raid carried out by the Buenos Aires Police Illicit Drugs Unit in Mar del Plata last Thursday ended abruptly after one of the agents, 20-year-old Ian Ruiz, was shot in the head and left in serious condition.
The violent incident occurred around midday and the perpetrators managed to steal the official weapon and escape on a motorcycle.
The armed confrontation took place during the deployment of the Provincial Brigade at the intersection of Rawson and Termas de Río Hondo streets. During a police operation, two young men on a motorcycle arrived at the scene and began shooting at the uniformed officers.
One of the shots hit Ruiz directly in the head and he had to be admitted to the Interzonal General Acute Hospital (HIGA). He has been in intensive care ever since.
Following the violent incident, a woman was arrested as one of the suspects and it was confirmed that she was the one who provided clues to find the main perpetrator.
