The Procurement Commission of the General Directorate of Roads of the Ministry of Transport has proposed to award the Toledo company Estudio AIA for 598,018.02 euros the development of the A-40 connection branch project between the TO- … 23 and the TO-22, an action which includes as a central element the construction of a bridge over the Tagus and which will connect the districts of Azucaica and Polígono. AIA participated in the call for tenders in a joint venture with the company Bureau Technique d’Etudes et de Inspection des Travaux. Their offer represents a 21% reduction from the base auction budget.
Estudio AIA, composed of civil engineer Ramón Sánchez de León and architect Juan Luis Fernández-Roldán, is widely known in the regional capital for its participation in some of the major urban infrastructure and promenade projects of recent decades, including the development of the Paraplejicos bridge, the Polígono and Buenavista footbridges and the Polvorines Bridge. Outside of Toledo, they also signed the Talavera cable-stayed bridge or the new Alcántara bridge in this city of Cáceres.
As indicated in the proposal evaluation reportthe procedure had the participation of nine bidders. Among them, one was excluded for not having achieved the minimum score required in the technical criteria subject to a value judgment and Two others were excluded because their offers were considered abnormally low.after not having sufficiently justified the proposed economic reductions.
One lane per direction
The mission, which has a completion period of 18 months, will make it possible to technically and constructively define a new conventional highway 4.34 kilometers longintended to connect kilometer point 6.1 of the TO-23, at its intersection with Ventalomar Street, to kilometer 4.75 of the TO-22, by a trumpet-type connection. The budget for the work is estimated at approximately 22 million euros.
It will be a single carriageway road, with one lane in each direction, designed to improve road connectivity in the area around the regional capital and which will be practically parallel to that which the Municipal Council It is also planned to unite these two districts of Toledo and there will also be one lane in each direction.
According to the characteristics included in the specifications, The new highway will allow speeds of 80 kilometers per hour when operationalalthough in the first 700 meters the speed will be limited to 60 km/h, given that this part of the route will follow the current road of the industrial zone. The standard section planned in the project is seven meters of road, divided into two lanes of 3.50 meters and shoulders of 1.50 meters on each side.
The most important element of the project is the bridge over the Tagus, which will have a approximate length of 390 meters. In addition to crossing the river bed, the route will have to cross the AVE Madrid-Toledo railway line, which will require coordinating the design with ADIF and taking into account the future route of the AVE towards Extremadura as it passes through the city, still awaiting definition.
The project also envisages the connection with the CM-4001 in Azucaica via a roundaboutwhich will open to traffic the existing exit of the TO-22 towards this road, an infrastructure carried out at the time as part of the AP-41 toll highway.
