Madrid, December 12 (EFE). – The new U-22 men’s basketball competition in Spain has reached an average total television viewership of 706,633 viewers in just 10 days.
These numbers so far are thanks to the new narrative, its “groundbreaking and bold” approach, according to organizers, and the drive and development of the talent of the more than 200 players competing on Friday and Saturday.
“This competition will become a reference for other countries, but we can already say that in just three months we have managed to change the sporting landscape of our youth basketball,” said Carlos Jiménez, U League FEB delegate.
The idea, jointly by RFEF and ACB and supported by the CSD, is a strategic project and competition to allow players to train and develop when they reach an age where they do not have a clear sporting path.

“After many years of concern for the future of national players, there is now a league that will be crucial for their consolidation and offer them an alternative to the most pessimistic forecasts,” said Jiménez.

It shows the real life of an U22 player without filters, from a modern and up-close perspective, to give the player the prominence he deserves.
In the U League, players receive instruction and scholarships that enable them to combine their university studies or professional training with rigorous competition to suit their athletic needs.
“Our goal is for the U League to establish itself as a stepping stone towards professional basketball, a meeting point for national and international talent,” said Andreu Lladó, head of the U League at ACB.
When players in Spain finish the junior league, they do not have a clear training path and in this case they can compete and develop to get the necessary impetus that will allow them to enter the professional world of basketball.
The average number of online viewers per day is 450,000, while the average cumulative viewership on television in the first 10 days is 706,633 viewers, with 4,873,781 contacts between direct and delayed.
“If we start from scratch, we are already above 60% of Spaniards in all important variables such as number of athletes, score and rebounds, and this has only just begun,” added Carlos Jiménez.
All games will be broadcast on the U League YouTube channel, as well as on the channels of several well-known media companies and several television networks dedicated to this segment.
