Prosecutors who intervened in the complaint alleged that Díez and his interlocutors were trying to collect money compromising data about researchers and prosecutors to use them to benefit third parties with the aim of “torpedoing” or “cancelling” investigations involving high-ranking political officials and businessmen, judicial sources said.
Specifically, the allegations before the Madrid court revolve around Díez’s alleged involvement a coordinated plan to discredit and obtaining information from the UCO and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, which the State Department said could constitute influence peddling and bribery.
