Next year, the National University of La Plata (UNLP) will welcome 35,523 students who will begin undergraduate studies, a lower number than this year, although the university clarified that the information from some faculties still needs to be processed. Additionally, it was noted that some academic units will reopen registration in February and March.
Yesterday ended the registration period set by the UNLP Presidency for those who want to pursue one of the 150 careers offered by the 17 faculties of the University of La Plata.
Last year there were 36,670 students enrolled, 1,147 more than this year, meaning there has been a decline in the number of enrolled students.
According to the faculties’ preliminary enrollment figures, the medicine course is at the top with 6,638 new students, although this is around 1,600 fewer than last year, when there were 8,269. Nevertheless, it is the faculty with the most enrollments and students. This is due to the elimination of the mandatory entrance exam in 2015.
The situation is different for the Faculty of Arts, which moved from fifth to second place with 4,199 enrollments. Psychology took third place, with 3,345 registered applicants, overtaking the humanities and educational sciences with 3,244 applicants.
Economics as well as law and social sciences remained lagging behind, but continued to see high demand with 3,183 and 2,725 registrations respectively. Both are still among the options most chosen by students, but without reaching the top spots.
Engineering was further down with 1,661 applicants, followed by journalism and social communications (1,386) and veterinary sciences (1,323).
Exact natural sciences (1,268), architecture and urban planning (1,230), computer science (1,231) and dentistry (1,198) have slightly higher values.
Further down are social work (606), natural sciences and museums (628), agricultural and forestry sciences (502) and the joint career in data science in organizations (576).
Completing the list are Computer Engineering with 309 registered people and Astronomical and Geophysical Sciences with 271 professions with a specific profile and a smaller number of participants.
