Miami (USA), December 12 (EFE). — Bryan Stern, the U.S. war veteran who led the secret operation to evacuate Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado by sea and in disguise, said Friday that he would like to take part in an operation to pick up that country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, although he claimed it would be difficult to get him out alive.
“I would like to do it and think about it every day, but getting him out alive is difficult. Killing him would probably be pretty easy, but getting him out alive and bringing him to trial, I think, would be very difficult,” Stern, founder of the Bull Rescue Foundation, which specializes in “rescuing Americans and allies from conflict and disaster zones,” said in a virtual press conference, according to its website.
However, the former US military man assured that his organization is not “killers or murderers” but that they are dedicated to saving lives. So if the US government asks them to take part in an operation in Venezuela, their response will depend “on the nature of the request.”
“We have excellent relationships with the United States government, particularly the diplomatic corps, armed forces and intelligence agencies,” Stern added.
Regarding the operation to remove Machado from Venezuela, Stern said it was paid for by “generous donors,” which he linked to Venezuelan-Americans opposed by the Maduro government.
According to them, the escape lasted between 15 and 16 hours and included land, sea and air transport, so that the Venezuelan opposition leader was able to accept the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway this week. EFE
