A simple gesture, carried out with calm, empathy and a lot of respect, has become one of the most moving videos of the moment. The protagonist is Álvaro Sánchez, a 30-year-old barber from Toledoentrepreneur and owner of two businesses: his first hair salon ‘ … Sánchez’s way in Bargas, opened in 2019, and another in the capital of Toledo, inaugurated last summer, in Mas del Rivero. On his Instagram account he shared a video titled “This is how I gained the trust of a child with ASD in the hair salon”, which is already approaching the three millions of reproductions and went viral due to its enormous human burden.
Video shows Aitor’s haircut processa child with autism spectrum disorder, with whom Álvaro has been working for some time. What is for many a daily gesture – a simple haircut – becomes for them path of trust built step by step. In the video, Álvaro slowly recounts each of the steps he takes to make the little one feel safe: “With a calm atmosphere at the end of the day, we sit him down calmly and we leave our hands outside the cape. “This way we prevent you from feeling overwhelmed or trapped. »
Before he starts, he shows him all the tools, touches them in his hands and shows them to him so he can check that nothing is happening. Nothing is done quickly. Nothing is done by surprise. “I run my finger through it first with the machine on and, when it’s quiet, I start cutting. Now, with his trust, I use it very gently and slowly so he feels more secure at all times.
Álvaro says that at the beginning the cell phone was essential to reassure Aitor, but now, after a long joint process, “I almost don’t need it anymore. He even gives me back my cell phone“.
The barber sums up his experience thus: “each child has his own rhythm, his own universe. Aitor taught me that with patience, affection and respect, fears can be transformed. It’s not just a haircut; it’s supporting, understanding and celebrating each small step forward“.
