The same audio that Carlos D., the owner of the The Mercedes Pagoda was taken to a workshop after the Panamericana accident to show its public version. In a video that also circulated on networks, the person responsible for the service, which the owner referred to by name, responded with a disclaimer.
The intention, he says, is to “clarify” what work they have carried out, what defects they have identified and why they assure that they have no connection with the loss of the wheel that triggered the accident in which the collector car was destroyed.
“The car was in our factory about a month ago. It comes from another workshop that has been restoring it for six years, according to the audio recording. They couldn’t get the injection system to work; We solve this problem. After solving the problem, we went to test it and found that the car had many defects.: Brakes, rear axle, transmission, steering… lots of problems. We have communicated this to the owner, we are backing it up with audios and the owner’s response,” the message begins.
The person responsible states that the owner told him that The car was still under warranty at the other shop and I had to take it there to be finished.since “it could never be tested because the car didn’t work.” For this reason, he assures, they limited their intervention to “Repair the injection pump” and then the vehicle was delivered. “This happened about a month ago. Unfortunately, we found out about the accident at Panamericana and We don’t want it to affect our work.. They are accidents, they can happen to anyone, but we have nothing to do with them. “Thank God it was only material damage,” he concludes.

Beyond defense,The workshop emphasizes that no work was carried out on this assembly and that the work was limited to the injection system.
The police report foresees the loss of the left rear wheel at kilometer 23 when the Mercedes stopped in the fast lane, the collision behind a Peugeot 408 driven by Sergio O. accompanied by Bárbara S. and the second impact by a Renault Sandero driven by Blanca M.. Bárbara S. suffered minor injuries and was taken to Boulogne hospital; the rest remained uninjured. The UFI on duty in San Isidro is investigating a case of negligent injuries.
In parallel with the versions, the market value of the Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Pagode – a sought-after classic – is around 180,000 US dollars, which allows us to estimate the possible repair costs. According to witnesses, the accident occurred shortly after the car returned to the road.

“After six years I opened the Pagoda… on the Panamericana the rear wheel came loose and it came off.” says Carlos D. in the audio that went viral after the accident and took over social networks and media. His voice sounds calm, almost resigned, as he summarizes in a matter of seconds what happened on the Panamericana on Saturday. “I got out as best I could and a car came from behind and shook it as it came. He did it perfectly, they are nothing more than iron, so the restoration will take another six years,” he adds, before thanking those who helped him.
In his audio, Carlos D. mentions a workshop by name –“I don’t know if it was Marroco (Oldtimer), I thought she was a little thing that touched everything.”– but without direct accusations.
The full audio, which lasts less than a minute, states: “Well, after six years, La Pagoda premiered, tomorrow I arrived in Punta del Este and on the Panamericana my rear wheel came off and the wheel came off. I don’t know if it was Marroco (Classic Cars) who thought it was a little thing that touched everything and well, I got away as best I could and a car came from behind and shook it as it came. He did it perfectly, I mean, they’re just irons, so it’ll be another six years Restoration will take time.” Well, thanks for everything guys, don’t worry, the tow truck will take me and that’s it.”
