The Xunta and the associations agree that wild boar hunters are good allies in preventing African swine fever in Galicia. It is for this reason that the Ministry of the Environment will encourage the owners of hunting grounds with the greatest number of pig farms to … cover their quota of specimens to be captured if they have not already done so and will study subsidy rates for catches exceeding this limit.
According to Ep, these are some of the initiatives that the autonomous department will take at meeting of the working group for wild boar management, convened for this Tuesday in an extraordinary manner due to the appearance of cases of African swine fever in Catalonia.
In addition to presenting their proposals, those responsible for the Environment They will listen and take into consideration the suggestions of others of participants, including representatives of other autonomous departments such as Rural Affairs and Health, in addition to Fegamp, the Civil Guard of Traffic, the Attached Police, Seprona and the Ministry of Transport.
They will also be present, as spokesperson for the hunting and breeding sector, responsible for the Galician Hunting Federation, the Association of Galician Tecores (Ategal), the Agrarian Unions, the Agrarian Association of Galicia (Asaga) and the Galician Union of Labrego.
The Galician government has already adopted other control measures, such as the declaration of hunting emergency, in force until February 22, 2026 in 38 regions, or the request for a state sectoral conference which has not yet been heard.
