The National Police arrested in Benidorm (Alicante) a 35-year-old fugitive who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the British authorities. He fled British justice after being sentenced to life sentence by … being involved in drug trafficking and weapons possession crimes.
The requesting country issued this order, which was brought to the attention of the police forces through Interpolafter suspecting that the man could have chosen the province of Alicante to hide from the justice of his country.
Investigators began searching for the accused’s whereabouts and discovered that he was in the town of Benidorm. After a police operation, he was located and detained, as detailed by the national police in a press release.
The facts occurred in 2020, in the British city of Newcastle. The detainee was part of a criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking and a “important member” within said group, whose functions were to give orders to other members “to purchase large quantities of drugs, supervising the transaction and actively participating in the counting, storage and subsequent delivery of the money for the purchase”.
As the National Police explains, the man “performed his duties under the direction of the head of the organization and gave instructions to junior members.” He also participates in the acquisition of 34 kilos of cocaine which was distributed to various buyers in the North East of the United Kingdom and concerned the production of cannabis and the storage of a semi-automatic pistol, which were raided by police at a house in Newcastle.
The detainee, after completing the police procedure, was placed at the disposal of the Central Instruction Court of the National Audience (AN), the body responsible for carrying out the procedures with a view to his subsequent extradition.
