It came into his life through a chain of coincidences, with Facebook serving as a starting point. This afternoon, the announcement of “A cat for adoption” moved her while surfing social media. Her daughter’s request to search for the animal in question led to the action.
“We agreed to look for her. The surprise was total. They gave it to us on a corner and what we were hoping would be a kitten –as we had seen in the photo shared with us– It turned out to be a huge, large, adult cat.who really looked like a lion. We accepted it without hesitation. The previous guardians simply told us that they had found him on the street months ago. When we tried to ask them at home what they ate and what their routines were, they had already blocked us,” Elena Blanco remembers sadly.
As the adaptation continued with Elena, her husband, her daughter, a dog and another cat, the family discovered this The cat he adopted was not a female, but a neutered male.. So Nany became “Nany León” to her new family.
The adaptation was strangely simple, although “el Nany León” imposed its own rules. Although it wasn’t difficult for him to accept his new partner, He was not an easy cat to spoil.. The first time Elena’s daughter tried to pick him up, he leaned his big legs against her, his “serious” face seemed to say: I’m not used to that. It was a cat that initially preferred to hide in the master bedroom closet.
But little by little, he began to accept and embrace the pampering he didn’t ask for. Elena’s daughter managed to get him to sleep with her, and the couple soon discovered his great weakness: he was extremely cold. and sought shelter under the padding in winter.
In summer he liked to rest on the terrace of the house, even though the heat in some areas rose to 50°C at times. “On hot days, we would find the big boy lying in a box or on the ground in the shade in the back yard. Also on a marble table in the middle of the room.”
Despite his initial resistance to caresses, was of a sociable nature. He had no problem getting into the lap of any visitor, be it a friend of the house or Elena’s eldest son, who often visited his mother and didn’t dare move without asking the cat for “permission.” Even Elena’s 9-year-old grandson found Nany León curled up on his legs while playing with his cell phone.
“El Nany León” was the king of home premieres: every unoccupied box was his new “house”. His favorite place to rest was on the washing machine, covered with a large blanket, forcing the family to ask him for “permission” every time they needed to do laundry.
“El Nany León” was a whirlwind of events: Fear of water, so much so that a splash causes him to jump “from here to China”, or of the sound of the hairdryer, which once left him running so fast that he almost knocked over the 32-inch television, which was miraculously saved by the nimble hands of one of the men in the house.
He also felt threatened when the city bus number 5 drove past the family home. Since they had paved the road, they took this route. “The sound of the engine rushing by made him jump out of his bed and run away.” Nany had to get used to it and understand that they weren’t going to come in and harass him or run him over, it was just the sound as they walked by.
“These shocks and sometimes abrupt reactions They made us reflect on a difficult past. We believed that abuse may have shaped his growthwhich gives him that serious face blue dot that didn’t betray his loving soul.
He liked rainwater. When it stopped raining and the sun came up, I went out on the terrace and drank water from the puddles that formed on the ground.
The end came on January 14, 2025.”We were devastated because we couldn’t see it coming. My daughter, whom he called “Mom,” noticed that in his last days he wanted to be close to her more than ever: he followed her around the house and slept on her. We thought it was just a whim of “first class pampering”. We couldn’t perceive the silence and the reluctance to stop eating. We couldn’t understand his request for help. We are left with waste. We are left empty, we are left in tears“.
He left, leaving a huge void. “Although he was only with us for a few years, his presence was intense.. Today, almost a year after his departure, His memory lives on. “It is still in the garden, among the white roses and above all in our hearts.”
