This Tuesday, troops took part in an operation to remove a whale from the sea. 30 tons which seemed lifeless and adrift off the coast of La Coruña.
The Port Authority explained that the mammal appeared … stranded on Saturday and that due to its dimensions an operation was carried out to remove it, with a crane and with the participation of the staff of the Coordinator for the Study of Marine Mammals (CEMMA).
“They had to lift it to the quay with a crane,” they said from the Port about an operation which began this Tuesday at eight o’clock in the morning and during which, once on land, the whale was cut into elements according to its size.
In turn, from Salvamento Marítimo, they explained that The cetacean, approximately 25 meters long, already lifeless, seemed to be drifting off the coast of La Coruña.in the region of O Portiño.
The A Coruña Maritime Rescue Center coordinated the operation, mobilizing the Helimer 401 helicopter to locate the cetacean and the Salvamar Betelgeuse boat to tow it to the Oza quay.
“An operation to guarantee navigation safety and protect our marine environment,” said Salvamento Marítimo about an action with several cranes and the use of equipment to carry out the dismantling.
