
Mexican authorities seized last Wednesday a total of 62 competition motorcyclessome of which They belonged to Marc Márquez, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzolinked to former Canadian Olympic athlete Ryan James Wedding, among the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives and linked to the Sinaloa cartel.
Through a joint statement, the Aztec government reported that agents carried out four searches of homes in Mexico City, “linked to a former Olympic athlete,” considered “one of the 10 most wanted fugitives from U.S. authorities,” where a a large number of motorcycles, two vehicles, works of art, two Olympic medalscartridges, a magazine and various documentation.
Images released by the FBI and Mexican authorities show among the seized motorcycles the Honda with which Marc Márquez became Moto3 world champion in 2012as well as Jorge Lorenzo’s Ducati in 2018, when he finished the championship in ninth position, and Andrea Dovizioso’s Italian team mount.
Likewise, the photographs reveal the only two Ducatis that Valentino Rossi rode during his racing career: the GP11, with which he achieved a podium in 2011, finishing seventh in the standings, and the GP12, which allowed him to reach the podium twice and finish sixth in the World Championship during the 2012 season.
The properties, sealed and under the protection of the authorities, while what was confiscated was made available to the agent of the Public Ministry, are linked to the Ryan Wedding, former Canadian Olympianthat the FBI is looking for to operate from Mexico in alliance with the Sinaloa cartel and “leads a violent organization dedicated to cocaine trafficking”as reported by the United States Embassy in Mexico on December 8.
In a video posted on its social networks, the American embassy indicated that Wedding is “one of the most wanted criminals by the FBI”, as well as “there is a reward of up to $15 million to obtain information leading to his capture.” North American authorities also stressed that they believed the former athlete “is hiding in Mexico.”
On November 19, the United States government announced that increased the reward from $10 million to $15 million for information leading to the capture of Wedding, against whom the Donald Trump administration imposed financial sanctions.
The Canadian, who is on the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives list, represented Canada at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City (Utah, United States). According to the State Department, after his sports career he devoted himself to drug trafficking and his last known base of operation was Mexico.
