— Three years ago he fell ill and his children had to take care of him. He then lived with my grandmother, but he left for Rio Grande do Sul, the victim’s granddaughter reported. — But the second week of November, they talked and he moved back in with her. They spent 15 days together and he did these stupid things. There is no justification for what he did, he distorted her face.
The elderly woman was found by one of the girls, Débora’s mother, seriously injured, inside her house.
— My mother sent a message and she didn’t respond, so I went to see her — said Ilda’s granddaughter.
In an interview with GLOBO, Débora stressed that the two times the elderly woman and her ex-husband returned to live together, their relationship was not that of a couple.
— They reconnected and lived together, but not as a couple, but to keep each other company, — he said.
According to Débora, the man had already attacked Ilda 35 years ago, which led to the end of the marriage.
— He hit her, and that’s the reason for the separation. But when he fell ill and was left to care for his children, he asked for forgiveness. He seemed like a different person and during this time he never seemed violent – said the young woman.
After the crime, Ataide was located by the state military police at the Pato Branco bus station, with a ticket purchased for the state of Santa Catarina. The man was arrested in the act.
According to the Paraná Civil Police, the investigation into the case was concluded last Tuesday (2) as attempted femicide. However, if the expert report proves that Ilda’s death was the result of an assault, the attacker will be accused of femicide.
According to her granddaughter, Ilda was recovering from attacks she suffered at home when she started feeling unwell on Saturday (6).
— My grandmother was admitted to the intensive care unit for three days and was moved to a room where she stayed for two days before being discharged. She stayed at home for a week and her condition was better, but last Saturday she started to feel sick, we called Samu and she was helped, says the young woman.
However, Ilda succumbed to her injuries and died at 9am on Sunday.
Débora also recounted that in 2015, her grandmother fell ill and lost the use of her legs, having to use a wheelchair. Currently, Ilda and Ataide lived alone in the elderly woman’s house, close to their children’s residence.
According to the young woman, her grandfather’s relations with his family were peaceful.
— Since we only started living together after he fell ill, he didn’t have much affection — he revealed.
For Débora, her grandmother was an example.
— My grandmother raised her children alone, she was a mother and father. She was a very warlike and fiery woman, said her granddaughter. — He was a coward, and I want justice to be done and for him to pay in the worst possible way.
Ilda left three children and five grandchildren. The funeral wake of the elderly woman will take place this Tuesday afternoon (9) in the mortuary chapel of São Cristóvão de Marmeleiro.
Explosion of feminicides in Brazil
Over the past two weeks, almost daily, a series of barbaric crimes have shocked the country: in all of these crimes, the victims were women – raped and killed because they were women. In Florianópolis, a 21-year-old woman was raped and strangled on her way to a swimming lesson. In Jaborandi, Bahia, another woman, aged 27, was taken out of the shower and shot dead by her ex-boyfriend. In the northern zone of Rio, an official shot dead a teacher and a psychologist from the Federal Center for Technological Education (Cefet) Celso Suckow da Fonseca, in Maracanã. In São Paulo, a woman was killed by her ex-husband in the pastry shop where she worked, and a young woman was run over and, still trapped in the vehicle, dragged into the street. Her legs were amputated and hospitalized in serious condition. The suspect in the crime, according to the victim’s family, had a brief relationship with her.
