The police arrested five peoplethree men and two women aged 28 to 47, alleged perpetrators of the crimes of falsification of documents, fraud, promotion of irregular immigration and membership in a criminal organization, as indicated in a press release.
The investigation carried out by agents of the Local Immigration and Borders Brigade of the National Police Station of Gandía began in July after becoming aware of several complaints from citizens residing in the capital of the La Safor region who declared that they had foreigners registered in their homes. without your consent.
After the first investigations, during which information on possible fraudulent registrations was requested from the municipal register of Gandia, the agents confirmed the existence of an alleged criminal organization based in this city, supposedly dedicated to the falsification of documents, fraud and promoting irregular immigration for profit.
During the investigations carried out by the investigators, they identified 15 victimsall owners of their accommodation in Gandía, most of whom were unaware that foreign citizens were registered in their accommodation, in some cases more than 10.
The agents confirmed the irregular registration of 127 people and they verified how the organization would be composed of at least eight members with differentiated functions and different degrees of involvement, who acted “in a structured and stable manner”, and who had maintained their criminal activity continuously between April 2023 and August 2025.
The suspects possessed a “high degree of specialization” since they combined the obtaining of personal data with the preparation of falsified contracts of legal appearance, which contained cadastral references.
Theft of letters from mailboxes
Those investigated illegally obtained the personal data of elderly people, mainly by stealing correspondence from mailboxes, sometimes forcing them to then draw up false lease contracts which they then presented to the municipal register.
In this way, they dealt with fraudulent registrations of foreign citizens in a situation of administrative vulnerability, thus favoring irregular immigration, since subsequently registered citizens could present civil status certificates to consolidate residence rights in Spain.
For each recording, the people surveyed charged amounts ranging from between 200 and 1,000 eurosalways in cash and without receipt to avoid any administrative control. It is estimated that they could have obtained an economic profit of more than 50,000 euros, in addition to at least 3,000 euros from false housing rentals.
The arrested people, after taking their statements, were released after being warned of the obligation to appear before the judicial authority when requested. The investigation remains open and new arrests cannot be ruled out.
