The PP candidate and interim president of Extremadura, María Guardiola, does not now exclude letting Vox reintegrate the future regional government if there is “a commitment to seriousness, management and work”, because she recalled that the far right was already part of its first executive in 2023 and “they did not last a year”.
Guardiola won the election in Extremadura with 43.2% of the vote, but this translated to just one more MP, leaving the PP far from the absolute majority it aspired to get rid of Vox. Today, in statements to Cope this Tuesday, the President of Extremadura expressed her desire to “lead a stable government that continues the social and economic change that began in the region two and a half years ago.”
For the leader of the regional PP, the main thing is to talk about the needs of Extremadura “above seats, positions and positions”, although she considered that the results obtained by her party express “a majority desire” to have a solo PP government. It is for this reason that he asked for responsibilities so that the region is not blocked.
Although in the morning he opened the door to allow the far-right party to re-enter the Junta de Extremadura, last night on Telemadrid he pleaded for a minority government, that is, the same as before last Sunday’s elections, thanks to the abstentions of the PSOE and Vox during his inauguration. In this sense, he considered “reasonable” the proposal of former president Juan Carlos Rodríguez Ibarra to request socialist abstention during the inauguration so that the PP governs without the extreme right. According to him, Ibarra made this step within the executive of his party because he “thinks of the end of Sánchez”.
