Defender Thiago Silva, 41, has already informed Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt of his decision to leave the club in December, taken some time ago, as reported by the blog.
The veteran only waited for the club’s participation in the Brazilian Cup to confirm with Fluminense the project he had already established with his wife: to return to Europe, but still without any indication of retirement.
Even with a contract until mid-2026 at Fluminense, Thiago Silva decided to interrupt his stay after a year and a half back in Brazil, with the family continuing to live in England.
Between the travel and the lives of both sides, there was some wear and tear from the journey, and the player’s physical issues also took their toll. Thiago suffered injuries beyond what he imagined, leading to the conclusion that it would be best to leave Brazil in December, in agreement with his family.
Fluminense did not comment on this, indicating that they would try to dissuade the player from this idea, but in practice this did not create any obstacle to Thiago Silva’s decision, which is irreversible.
From now on, the veteran will evaluate the opportunities that could present themselves in Europe in countries where he will be close to his family to play in 2026, since Thiago still dreams of the World Cup.
