We are very surprised by what happened with Francisco Salazar and the harassment of women within the PSOE. We are shocked by the messages about prostituted women in Ábalos and Koldo and the impunity with which they acted to place or “displace” girls. It seems incomprehensible to us that the PP mayor of Alpedrete justifies the murderer who stabbed his wife 50 times, thus denying that it was sexist violence. Or say goodbye with hugs to a councilor of the Xunta de Galicia prosecuted for sexual assault. And of course We are saddened by the 1,337 women murdered by men, simply for being men, since we have data.
But it is curious that, not being isolated but rather normalized events, they continue to surprise us. It is not necessary to state them one after the other to realize that they are common in our society. Let’s stop being cynical and recognize the fact that machismo permeates every corner of our system.it sneaks in, like mold grows in a refrigerator that is not cleaned, that is not disinfected, like our democracy.
Because while this is happening, denialist discourse is seeping into our lives, like this mold, disguised as free speech in the form of books and controversies that are used to sell books, creating lies and denying realities which, curiously, always have to do with a change in the positioning of men.
Feminism makes us equal, it does not remove men’s rights, it only removes their privileges; and if there are privileged people, there are denigrated people. Yes, it exists and continues to exist, Let’s stop opening our eyes wide in surprise and open our mouths to denounce him, not just to sell beautiful messages or books that deny realities.
