Watch the movie Love in fact At Christmas, it has become a tradition. If you are one of those who have seen this film several times, you will know this. Love in fact It functions as a sentimental refuge amid the accelerated pace of the Christmas holidays, reminding us that love is not perfect and that it is present everywhere. Seeing it again is not only remembering a well-known story, but reaffirming that love, in all its forms, accompanies us in our daily lives even if we are not aware of it.
Now, coinciding with the Christmas holidays and the tradition of seeing Love in fact during these days, The Humanoid company shared a video in which the humanoid robot HMND 01 Alpha while recreates one of the most iconic scenes from Love in fact.
In the shared video you can see a robot powered by artificial intelligence, which is inspired by the scene in which actor Rowan Atkinson performs while wrapping a gift. If you recall, in the film’s scene, Atkinson’s character delays a purchase made by Harry, played by Alan Rickman, by wrapping a necklace with exaggerated care and decoration, although in the Humanoid video a minimalist shopping environment is envisioned in which a woman appears and places a small robot on the counter, where HMND 01 Alpha works as a clerk.
As the video continues, the android politely asks if the gift needs to be wrapped. Additionally, when the customer asks for something simple, HMND 01 Alpha begins placing the little robot in a transparent box with a multitude of decorative decorationsmaking a clear nod to the original film.
The following is a exaggerated interpretation of the packaging to highlight the robot’s capabilitiesknowing that the scene becomes more comical when the customer asks the robot to hurry up, to which HMND 01 Alpha responds “I’ll finish in a second” because he has “hands for a week”.
Likewise, as the customer loses patience, HMND 01 Alpha adds a final touch to the decoration before presenting the result, even if, later, she realizes that the packaging is too excessive. And so, while the woman is distracted, slide the box aside to end up replacing it with a red packet.
There is no doubt that this video reflects how androids learn through trial, error, and correctionconstituting notable challenges in the robotics industry. In addition, on the occasion of the reconstruction of the scene featuring Rowan Atkinson, the Humanoid company declares in a press release that the video “is imperfect and full of festive chaos” because “the robots do not start with all the answers”.
Remember that the HMND 01 Alpha was launched at the beginning of December and was presented as a humanoid robot measuring 1.78 meters and nearly 90 kilos capable of meeting real challenges in real and domestic environments.
