Seville has already entered “Christmas Fashion” last Saturday, November 29, with the switching on of the lighting typical of this date. A little over a week later, the Theater of the True Maestranza opened its doors this Thursday 15 … December brings magic with one of the most unmissable annual festivals in the Seville capital.
Like every year, the Cajasol Foundation organized its now traditional concert “This is how our land sings at Christmas”, a show for the benefit of the Alalá Foundation of Seville and Jerez. Attending a concert at the Maestranza is in itself a sensory experience. Her privileged acoustics -one of the most admired in the world- further highlighted the voices and musical nuances of an evening where the emotion was constant from the first minute.
Merry Christmas!
THE Seville Municipal Symphony Orchestraunder the direction of Francisco Javier Gutierrez Juanwas responsible for hosting Christmas at the theater. They started playing different air, string, wind and percussion instruments. Suddenly the curtain opened, revealing the Entreolivos School Choirand giving way to a barrage of applause from the audience.
The slight sound errors at the beginning, quickly resolved, did not prevent the performance of the “Christmas Fanfare”, a version by Todd Stalter adapted by Manuel Marvizonproduction director of the show, to perfection. Once finished, the journalist and presenter Victoria Romero greeted the audience by explaining what the evening would consist of: “This concert is called The joys of DecemberHere we are going to have a lot of fun this evening! A musical journey that will take us through Andalusia and the whole world.
Below are two participants from the TV show Children’s voices they took over. Both sang with the Entreolivos school choir; he did it first Celia Puntas with “The Magic Night”, by Marvizón, then Lucas Paulano‘It looks like Christmas’, by Baras and Marvizón’. The winner of the last edition of the program did not leave the stage without first announcing that, this Friday, December 16, he would release a new single, “Everything stays the same”.
Lucas Paulano at the Maestranza
Suddenly, Carlos Herrera burst onto the scene. “I’m sure that you have, in each of your seats, a little knot in your stomach: it’s the spirit of Christmas,” he reported, before introducing the following artists. “I always considered myself the fifth singer, well, the sixth, the seventh… It depends on the moment,” he admitted, giving in to Hispalis singerswho sang “My town at Christmas”, by Juan José Reyes, accompanied by Natalia Calceteiro. A combination of voices that blend together perfectly. A few minutes later, they joined them Marie Toledo And Julia Garrido to give way to “That the child God is already born”.
María Toledo came to stay and invited the Alalá Foundation Singing School in Seville and Jerez to delight the spectators with his “Desde niños”, a flamenco song that he began playing alone on the piano, and to which, later, the rest of the instruments were added. The Seville Municipal Symphony Orchestra brightened the atmosphere so much that Seville ended up accompanying the musicians with applause.
While part of the soul of the Alalá Foundation was already on stage, César Cadaval, Dr Keli, Julia Garrido, Blanca Parejo, Loli de la Abuela and Saray Jiménez They joined the children of the choir to bring the emotional touch to ‘It’s Allah’the anthem they performed at their tenth anniversary gala.
Victoria Romero at the top of the evening
As Victoria Romero had already predicted, during the day Seville could travel the world through music. For a moment he seemed to settle down in America, hand in hand with the Gospel Sound Grenada and his “Joy for the world” and “Jesus brought me out.” He followed Julia Garridowho, with his sweet voice, lit up the room with “Recordar en Navidad”, an adaptation by Manuel Marvizón of the original song by E. Pola and G. Wyle.
Another work by the Sevillian composer resonated in the voices of Milien and the Entreolivos school choir, and it was “A way of loving”. After finishing, Cadiz took advantage of the microphone to present some artists who “They carry Andalusia as their flaga successful group that could not be missed on this magical night”: Always like this. The emblematic Sevillian group performed with “The Meaning of Christmas”, by Rafa Almarcha, and was accompanied by the Entreolivos school choir.
It’s at that moment Riki Rivera softened hearts with his “Blessed Innocence”making more than one think with his own theme which mixed poetry and music, a plea against wars and injustices in which he took the opportunity to promote childhood. Their performance took on even more meaning when the Entreolivos school choir also participated.
Christmas is a time closely associated with love, shared moments and family. It was therefore not necessary to miss The Flakawho with his children Alba and Romeo Míguezonce again brought out the flamenco palm trees of the Maestranza with this ‘De Triana a Belén’.
Director Francisco Javier Gutiérrez Juan
The final touch to the evening was provided by the lyrical voices of Ismael Jordi and Paula Ramirezeven if in the initial program, Ainhoa Arteta featured in place of the Sevillian soprano. Everyone sang a song alone, but accompanied by Choir of Friends of the Maestranza Theater Association: Ismael, ‘We must sow at Christmas’, by Manuel Alejandro, and Paula, ‘Let there be no loneliness this Christmas’, by Marvizón. In between, they joined their voices in “Angels Are Sing.”
There are those who love Christmas and those, on the other hand, embody the Grinch. No matter one’s soul and Christmas spirit, There’s no way “This Is How Our Land Sings at Christmas” won’t make your hair stand on end.. The proof is the eternal and noisy ovation that the city reserved for each of the artists who took the stage last night. Without a doubt, it was a magical night of many “Allah”.
