THE Early regional elections in Extremadura will take place on December 21, 2025after the call of President María Guardiola – People’s Party – for the failure to approve the 2026 budgets. Extremadura took office in 2023 thanks to an agreement … with Vox, breaking 40 years of socialist rule.
The current blockade results from disagreements with its right-wing partners, who are calling for tougher immigration and the economy. The region faces challenges such as high rural unemployment, depopulation and dependence on the European CAP. 65 seats are in the running (36 in Badajoz, 29 in Cáceres).

-
-Economic priorities
-
The program commits to a “radical” reduction in taxes and regional rates, eliminating clean taxes and reducing unproductive public spending. It proposes to simplify bureaucratic procedures for companies and self-employed people, with a rural modernization plan and support for energy reindustrialization, guaranteeing leadership in the sector.
-
-Housing and employment
-
They commit to expanding available land and releasing land that is not properly protected for environmental reasons in rural areas for young people and reformulating purchase or rental guarantees. In terms of employment, they seek to create opportunities through accelerators and microfinance, prioritizing the national product and hunting as a key economic activity.
-
-Rural and security
-
They defend food sovereignty against imports, protect the Dehesa law and fight fires with more resources. They include anti-immigration policies, requiring legal residency to qualify for welfare, and the expulsion of foreign offenders.
The PP would win the elections and improve its current representation, but without a sufficient majority to govern alone, as Guardiola wishes.
He would barely win a seat and get 29 in the Extremadura Assembly. The PSOE would lose five, go from 28 to 23 representatives and cease to be the leading force. Unidas Podemos would remain as it is, with four deputies, while the one that would grow the most would be Voxgoing from five to nine seats.
