At the age of 22 and 77, a young man died after colliding with a car
Traffic in the region has once again been marked by tragedy: several deaths have been recorded in less than a day and the number continues to rise. Less than 24 hours after the death of an Abasto resident was confirmed, the holiday ended with three more deaths, bringing the total to 75 deaths so far in 2025. The escalation seems unstoppable: the numbers already far exceed the 64 deaths for the entire previous year and the end of the year is on track to be the deadliest in the last decade.
The trend that experts, family members and traffic organizations are warning about is repeating itself with brutal precision: most fatal accidents involve motorcyclists. The streets, paths and avenues of the city center and the periphery continue to show a scenario in which the risk is increasing and prevention is scarce.
The most serious incident occurred on routes 36 and 425, where a motorcycle collided with a Peugeot 208, which eventually caught fire and made it impossible to identify. In this vehicle were Aldy Never Villa Rospillosa, 25, and José Antonio Zenón Olmos, 30, both residents of areas 202 and 483. The two died almost instantly from the force of the impact. The car was driven by a 44-year-old man who reported a blood alcohol level of 0.0, although the judiciary is investigating the exact mechanisms of the accident. The experts worked for hours looking for cameras and witnesses, still without results.
The second case was registered on Sunday evening at 10 p.m. and 77 p.m., when Nicolás Español (25) lost his life after crashing his Honda Titan motorcycle into a Ford Fiesta. When SAME arrived, the young man no longer had any vital signs. The impact was so strong that experts had to intervene to reconstruct the route of both vehicles. Once again the victim was a motorcyclist, and once again the pattern of fatal accidents repeats itself in urban areas where speed and recklessness often combine in deadly ways.
The holiday ended with three more deaths, bringing the total to 75 deaths so far this year
These three deaths, along with the death the day before of the Abasto resident – a motorcyclist who suffered very serious injuries in an accident and did not survive – exacerbate a tragic curve that worries health authorities and control organizations. The common denominator is obvious: motorcycles and bicycles account for a large proportion of deaths and serious injuries this year. The number of 75 road deaths is not just a number: it is a clear symptom of a crisis that is only getting worse.
The speed, the lack of helmets, the uncontrolled vehicles, the lack of permanent controls and the deterioration of many roads form a cocktail that becomes even more dangerous in December when traffic increases and traffic becomes more chaotic.
A serious cyclist
The third episode of these last hours did not end in fatalities, but it keeps the health services on alert: a 46-year-old cyclist is fighting for his life after suffering an accident on 32nd Avenue between 1 and 115.
He was found next to a storm drain, with a blood stain on the pavement and his bike strapped to the sprocket with a fireproof vest. He remains in the intensive care unit in the hospital, with a cautious prognosis and life-threatening condition.
