Three military police officers were arrested after shooting dead an already surrendered and unarmed suspect during a robbery at a residence in Moema, in the southern zone of São Paulo, on Friday evening. The young man, aged 18, was part of a group of four people involved who invaded a townhouse and held an elderly couple, both aged 77, hostage.
According to the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), the battalion commander opened a military police investigation (IPM) after analyzing the agents’ body camera recordings. The ministry said it had identified “indications of irregularities in the actions of the three prime ministers”, who were arrested on the orders of the military authority.
The police report states that the four suspects entered the house around 8 p.m., hooded and armed. They tied and gagged the couple in the bedroom, while three gang members ransacked the rooms looking for jewelry and money. The elderly woman, according to g1, reported that at one point she was untied and forced to hand over the car key, before being arrested again with more force moments later.
As the thieves prepared to flee, a Tactical Force team arrived at the address. The resident said she heard commands to approach and gunshots, but neither she nor her husband were injured. As the residence did not have internal cameras, the victims were not able to recognize the criminals, who remained hooded the entire time.
During this action, two suspects were arrested and a teenager was apprehended. The fourth member was killed by the police even after surrendering, according to the report recorded in the investigation. Weapons, ammunition, objects used in the crime as well as the car used to support the gang were seized from the group.
